Local Veterans Day Events & Celebrations
VETERANS BBQ on Saturday, November 8 at 11:30 am at the Cumming National Guard Readiness Center. All Vets and their families will be treated by Ingram Funeral Home, to a free BBQ lunch catered by Jim and Nicks. Guest speakers will be: SFC RET. Army Ranger Michael Schlitz (Purple Heart Recipient) Command SGTMAJ. Roy Marchert, Congressman Rob Woodall, and Congressman Doug Collins. Located at: 100 Aquatic Circle, Cumming, GA.
The Veterans Day and Marine Corps birthday celebration from 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm on Monday, November 10, 2014 in the football stadium at North Forsyth High School, 3635 Coal Mountain Road. It is free and open to the public.
Veterans Day Ceremony at the Veterans War Memorial in Cumming, GA on November 11, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Enjoy the music of the Flash of Crimson Band. The City of Cumming Mayor Gravitt will speak and the keynote speaker is Chief Warrant Officer 5 Thomas J. Golden.
CW5 Golden served three tours in Iraq and he has been awarded numerous decorations, to include the Combat Action Badge, Master Aviator Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal (with Service Star), Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War of Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Overseas Reserve Training Ribbon, U. S. Public Health Service Outstanding Unit Citation, Georgia National Guard Meritorious Service Medal, State Active Duty Service Ribbon.

Applebee’s – Free meal for Veterans and Active military personnel on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. You’ll be able to choose a meal from a limited Veteran’s Day menu. You can see the complete menu by using the link above. This deal is dine-in only and beverages and gratuity are not included. You’ll need to bring in one proof of military service or ID.
Carrabba’s – If you are a veteran or active military member, you can stop by a Carrabba’s near you and get a free appetizer of your choice on Tuesday, November 11. There’s no purchase necessary or coupon required, and you’ll need to bring military ID or come in your uniform.
Visit Chili’s on Tuesday, November 11, 2014, to get your Veterans Day free meal if you are a veteran or on active military duty. Chili’s is offering all military veterans past and present their choice of one of 7 meals. This offer is available from 11am – 5pm on Veterans Day at participating Chili’s in the U.S. only. Dine-in from limited menu only; beverages and gratuity not included. Bring military ID and call to make sure the location is participating.
Golden Corral is offering a free meal on Monday, November 17 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. See their website for details. Military retirees, veterans, active duty, National Guard and Reserves are all welcome.
Little Caesars® Pizza – Little Caesars is honoring the men and women of the United States armed forces this Veterans Day by providing veterans and active military members with a free Crazy Bread® with proof of military status or proof of service at participating stores nationwide. Call ahead to verify participation.
LongHorn Steakhouse is giving away free Texas Tonions and non-alcoholic beverages to veterans who stop into their local Longhorn Steakhouse on Tuesday, November 11, 2014. You’ll need to bring proof of service with you for this freebie such as wearing your uniform or showing Military ID.
Red Robin on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 to get a free Red’s Tavern Double burger and Bottomless Steak Fries. Be sure to bring your military ID to take advantage of this Veterans Day freebie. Not all locations are participating, so it’s best to call ahead to make sure your local Red Robin will be offering this free meal.

- Free Haircuts at Great Clips – Veterans and active/inactive/retired military members can stop into Great Clips on Tuesday, November 11 and get a free haircut or pickup a free haircut card to use before the end of the year. Anyone can stop in to get their haircut and receive a free haircut card that they can give to a veteran.
- Free Admission to World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta – Members of the Armed Forces (active duty and veterans) get free admission to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta when they show their valid Armed Forces ID card. Between November 8-16, half-price tickets can also be purchased for friends and family.
- Lowe’s, Publix and Home Depot are offering 10% discounts on Veterans Day for military.
- Dollar General is offering a 11% discount on November 11, 2014.
- National Parks Free Veterans Day Admission – Everybody gets free entrance to our National Parks on Veterans Day. Date this year: November 11, 2014.
